We were very pleased to welcome 242 senior and 102 junior fell runners to Hutton Roof this year, despite the weather being very unpredictable. A heavy shower made courses slippery in places, and there was a cold wind, so times were down on previous years.
In the senior race Darren Kay (Pudsey & Bramley) was the winner in 50.14, followed by Phillip Winskill (Keswick AAC) in 50:51, third Garry Greenhow ( Ambleside AC ) in 52:36. First lady Victoria Wilkinson (Bingley Harriers & AC) came in 6th overall in 53:09.
1st V40 was Paul Dugdale (Kendal, 53.31), second Paul Crabtree (Wharfedale, 53.45), 3rd Mark Chippendale (Bowland, 54.06).
1st V50 was Mike Egner (Pennistone Fell Runners, 57:50), 1st V60 Mike Walsh (Kendal AAC, 65:42), 1st V70 Graham Jameson (Lancaster & Morecambe AC, 87:46).
Ambleside was best represented club with 10 seniors and 18 juniors running and won both the men's and lady's team races! Garry Greenhow, Todd Oates and Mark Roscoe for the men, Lou Roberts, Steph Jones and Cath Musetti for the ladies. Second men's team was Ellenborough: Brian Taylor, Mark Walsh and Adam Frankham.
In the ladies race Victoria Wilkinson (Bingley Harriers & AC, 53:09) is the first winner of a new Lady's Trophy donated by Jenny Holt. Second was Caitlin Rice (Glossopdale, 60.29), in third place again, Lynn Clough (Chorley, 62.20) knocking over 30 seconds off last year's time.
1st lady V40 was Molly Ralphson (Trawden, 63.57), V50 Evelyn Dugdale (Helm Hill, 66.52), V60 Sue Heywood, (Saddleworth, 92.49).

Juniors:
102 junior runners competed in 6 age groups for boys and girls from age 6 to 17. Lots of siblings competed in the races, most notably James and Harry Bowen, twins (Ambleside AC) who came first and second in the under 10s, only 2 seconds apart.

Scarlet Dale was awarded the Hutton Roof Cup for first local junior.
This year we borrowed the large FRA tent for registration, plus the printing timer, and radios, all of which really helped to make the event run smoothly. With the double accounting systems now needed to ensure all runners are accounted for, the races did start a little late but everyone was very understanding and it should be better next year: Saturday 23rd May 2015. |
