The origins of Hutton Roof Country Fair lie in the Queen's Silver Jubilee Celebrations which where held on the Old School Field in 1977. Everyone had such a good time it was decided to make it an annual event. By the early 80s the idea of the Fell Race had started to form and the event became a very successful fund raiser.

At the time the nearest thing to a village hall was known as the Reading Room, situated next to High Rigg, which had been built in the 1890s to house the Navvies building the Manchester Corporation Aquaduct. a new village hall was required and was built in 81-87.

By 1985 the new hall was almost finished and the first official fell race was run.
The Country Fair is held on Spring Bank Holiday Saturday at the end of May and usually enjoys good weather. As well as the Fell Race there are many other attractions ranging from childrens sports, plant stall, stick making, rare breeds, coconut shy etc. There are different things every year, the two constants being the Fell Race and the Cakes and teas provided in the village hall. A mammoth bake takes place in the village, not just cakes but sandwiches are made, rolls filled, scones loaded with jam and cream. In fact the popularity of the teas has led to a recipe book being published. This is available from the Post Office.
