Jenny
Holt moved to Hutton Roof 30 years ago and has always been interested
in working dogs. She is a member of the British Institute of
Professional Dog Trainers and competes successfully all over the
country with originally German Shepherd Dogs and now Border Collies in
Working Trials. (www.workingtrials.co.uk)
Working Trials test
dogs on their ability to use their noses to follow tracks, find
articles left by a track layer, test for fitness over jumps and
obedience both with and away from the handler.
Jenny teaches dog owners
all aspects of dog training from general obedience to specialist
working trials through group sessions or on a one to one basis. She
believes that a trained dog is a happy dog and should be a pleasure to
own.
She can be contacted at South View, Hutton Roof Tel: 01524271584, mobile 07774972906 or E-mail huttonroofholt@tiscali.co.uk

Sue Prickett is our local star maker of
preserves, winning North West Producer of the Year 2004 and a silver
medal in the UK Great Taste Awards with her blackcurrant jam.
Sue produces a wide range of chutneys,
marmalades, jellies and jams from traditional recipes. Everything is
made in small batches in her farmhouse kitchen at Hutton Roof Hall and
uses locally sourced produce wherever possible. As a result some
preserves are only available seasonally.
Sue's preserves can also be found at Kitridding Farm Shop,
at nearby Old Town or contact Sue direct on 01524 271435. Copyright © 2006

Tim Holt is one of several villagers who own vintage cars including a 1928 Lagonda Tourer, 1933 Daimler and a 1947 Post Office Engineer's Morris van. These are not museum pieces, but are used for regular long distance trips, most recently a round the coast of Britain tour.
Tim has been the event organiser of the Cumbria Steam Gathering for over 30 years. This 2 day summer event has been going for 36 years and is a must for anyone interested in machines of any type, not just steam driven! Read Gazette Report

Marilyn Edwards, author of the Cats of Moon Cottage Books, has recently published "The Coach House Cats" which follows on from "The Cats on Hutton Roof" .
Marilyn says "Before we moved here I
spent hours on the web trying to find out more information about the
local area and because my name is Marilyn I found references to a Marilyn on Hutton Roof and became curious."
A Marilyn is a hill with a
relative height of at least 500 feet, regardless of absolute height or
other merit. The name is a pun based on Scottish peaks over 3000' being
named Munros after Sir Hugh Munro (although of course Marilyn Monroe
was spelt differently) so now Hutton Roof has two!
